I can't tell if it has an original front sight. Even if it does, it could have been reinstalled on the cut down barrel, need a close up of it. Carbine barrels were once plentiful and cheap, but not as cheap as cutting down the rifle barrel.

Hi EDL, Barrels were 30" (Rifle), 22" (carbine), and 26" (BOF). Your 20" did not start life at 20"s. A large number were modified from original for use as hunting rifles. John

They're an awful lot of fun! I was just out in the woods for awhile yesterday. There's an old coal mine tailing not far from home and I was making little rocks out of big rocks, shooting at about 70yds. I have a load using Belding and Mull's 311169 bullet at around 1450fps that is terribly accurate out of the rifle. In fact, golf balls at 100yds are easy! It wears a 6x Weaver in a removable mount. It's pictured in the scope mount thread. There's an extra bolt with a Leroy Rice peep like yours to use once the scope is removed.

Hi Edl, Congrats on finding any US Krag....that's success right there. Should you ever decide to remove and sell the Rice Bolt Peep please send me a PM. They or anything remotely close to them seem to be as scarce as hen's teeth or honest politicians.

Thanks,
I couldn't sell the rice peep sight if I wanted to because the standard rear sight has been removed. Besides, I like sighting through the peep sight better than I would a standard Krag Rear sight. I did try to adjust the peep sight to my Krag's point of impact, but it did not seem to adjust. Does the rice rear sight make the gun more valuable, even as a sportorized Krag?

I've seen the little bits of metal sell for nigh $80 on ebay. If the adjustments aren't working, maybe one or more of the screws are stripped.
