Ross 1905 Rifle.

Hi I just picked up a Ross rifle, I hope someone here can tell me a little more about this rifle and where to get a sling swivel that is in front of the trigger gaurd. This is my first thread so hi to all.

Your 1905 Ross is a military-type rifle which has been sportered by Bubba The Execrable. Frtunately, he limitd himself to shredding the woodwork on this one and the barrel appears untouched. You re very lucky; these things can be just scary accurate and the actions were rated at 100,000 psi without failure.

Somebody on here is bound to have the part you need. Check the stickies at the top of this page, get into the Library and you will find photos of what your rifle was like when it as brand new. Also there are MANUALS available for download and you are certain to want one of those.

in 1917, used them as training rifles and then sold them off withou firing them much, after the War was over. Bores in these can be very tight and it is much more common to find one with a GOOD bore in the USA than it is in Canada these days. Most of ours were run to death because the rifles were cheap after the War and the .303 has always been popular here.

BTW, your rifle cost our Government $28 at a time of $20 gold, so you can see that is emphatically NOT junk.

Give Prvi Partizan ammo a try in your rifle. Their brass is VERY close to the original specs. For a handload, try 38 grains of IMR 4895 with a Sierra 180 Pro-Hunter flatbase sated out to the OAL of a military round. This load shoots VERY well in my 1910 Ross and it is a good test load for just about any .303. It is a bit mild and produces 2250 in an SMLE, about 100 ft per sec faster in a long Ross barrel. Pressure is very low but accuracy is very high.
