    Handguard ID

First off, I am a carbine/garand collector and have only a small knowledge of 03's
He is needing a handguard for a mostly original 1917 dated SA '03.
He found this handguard on GB but thinks it might be a Remington not an SA as stated.
If the auction is wrong or the price is crazy does anyone have one for sale or know where one is for sale? I have no dog in this fight, just trying to help out a friend.

OK I am no expert on this, but according to Joe Poyers Book the descriptions of what he calls a Type 5 (1910-1919 high hump) hand guard, matches these pictures.
I can tell you its not the Type 10 or later (1929-1940+) Remington??, that are so prevalent. I have many of those, and this is not one of those.

I can't speak to price, seems a little high, but they are harder to find,

Hopefully somebody else will confirm or deny my research.
    Cheers

He needs a better side photo. It's not clear to me if it is a HH> I think the sight groove is too long, but I can't tell for sure.

Keep in mind the "type" designators are purely Joe Poyer's invention and have no basis in fact.

The handguard is a Remington M1903 handguard and would not be correct for a 1917-vintage Springfield Armory rifle.

    Hope this helps.
