    Lee Enfield 762 extractor.......

    Hello!

I am new on here and a little unsure as to how things work....

    I need some help!!

I sell Lee Enfield parts and have come across a 7.62 extractor claw that has been modified but I am not sure why, could anyone tell me why the extractor claw head would have been sheared off on one side at an angle?? It is stamped ED64 so I am assuming it is an original part and not something someone has tried to 'knock up' for any reason..

There's a very simp[le answer to your question and to save writing it all out again, I suggest that you search through the Lee Enfield part of the forum and it'll all become clear. On the other hand, someone else reading this who is computer savvy might just bring it up for you!

It would be great if someone could copy the info onto the thread, as like I said I am new on here and I am not 100% how it works.

    Thank you!!!!

If it's just how it works thats concerning you.......... don't bother. Suffice to say that it works! The chamfer is to allow the use of the charger loading system and the deper claw is to allow for the deeper 7.62mm rim AND to push the spent case into the side of the shallow tapered body, creating the friction that flips the case out!

It's that simple. And your genuine extractor is probably worth 3x the price of a .303 item but not so that you'll get rich I hasten to add. 60,000 were originally made

There were some replicas made from crap metal that would - so said - last twenty minutes on a good day before they snapped. A friend in my shooting club bought a couple of the repops and when the first one just snapped, he decided to anneal, harden and temper the second repop. Only he didn't get that far because during the annealing, it just sort of melted.......... So the real McCoy's are reasonably well sought after.

I wonder where the dies from Enfield went?

I've got Edna Parkers personnel taps and dies that she used, all presented in a simple wooden box.

Thanks, I was thinking of the dies used to forge the 7.62mm extractors.
