PH Sling

Am I correct, is this Parker Hale sling a converted Lewis gun sling? As I understand PH purchased surplus slings and converted them to target slings branding them as model 1927 pattern.
I understand these are becoming quite rare, Your thoughts please.

I read somewhere about the Lewis Gun connection and the PH purchase of surplus. The large brass buckle fits with a WW1 theme as its similar to that found on 1908 webbing.

I don't think you will see many of these slings around...yours is the 4th one I've seen. Width is 1.9315" woven webbing with leather tabs . Sewn parts are brown thread. No markings however was part of kit.

I know that after the war (or was it before.......) P-H purchased a vast quantity of surplus of a similar width webbing material but in a pale/faded maroon sort of colour that they used for all manner of slings. The material was ex RAF cargo strapping used to strap air cargo into the aircraft made up to suit by Irvine, the parachute people. I found this out when I was involved in the procurement of parts for the old nylon L42 rifle slings. Zillions of litle BSA Martinis had these slings with sling loop ends exactly as shown. But from a practical service point of view I doubt whether those leather ends, retained button fashion on the rounded stud would last more than, say, 10 minutes or so in the rain

Not sure if its the 'quality' of the picture but that looks very 'blue'

I have seen (and had) several very similar- I still have one - as they were the standard issue on the Enforcer.
All of the ones I have seen are the 'normal' sandy-brown-beige colour

The difference between the 'Enforcer' sling and the one you show, is that at one end, the Enforcer sling has the leather part sewn directly onto the canvas and not thru a metal loop, the other end is fed thru a metal loop and then rivetted back onto itself.
The leather part is the same width as the webbing (2")

We are probably talking two totally different slings ?

These are definitely "green". Very unique....was told by a UK Armorer that there were a limited number made for the M85's and were special order. Parker Hale did manufacturer a much lighter tan sling that looks similar. Somebody here will know story.

gsimmon Yes...the tan sling middle rifle was made by PH or AJP in your case. Shorter the M85 shown. Ron(Canada)

Same as the one that came with my M85 as well. It just resurfaced over the weekend. Wondered where it had been hiding!
