    Are these draws OK??

Picked up a no4 mk2 last week and finally got a chance to break it down tonight.
    Do my draws look ok?

Did the foreend fall off, or come away easily?

There should be no detectable fore-and-aft movement of the forend when it is placed on the barrelled action (ie without any of the bands or trigger guard fitted). nor any gap at the front of the butt socket.

A lot of No4 forends seem to have been fitted on the loose side (possibly for ease of assembly), and they tend to come away from the action a bit easier than with No1s. Hence the forend can be perfectly ok if it does come off easily, so long as there is no movement as above.

One real giveaway of totally, what we in the Armouring trade refer to by the technical expression of 'shagged' draws, is if you can pull the fore-end off the rifle from the muzzle end of the fore-end.

To remove a correctly fitted fore-end, it should be knocked down against the drawing (hence the word 'draws') taper by lightly knocking it downwards with a piece of wood against the rear top edges of the fore-end

TBox and Son have summed it up correctly but in fewer words than me!

    Roger that, All is well...

I learned last night "the front trigger guard screw IS the pivot" the hard way. Without your articles Peter I would've broke out the duct tape / superglue / big heavy hammer... Thanks gents....
