    Question M38 Mosin info sought...

I picked this up from a friend years ago, who thought it was a 'cut-down' mosin...didn't want it since he had another 91/30 anyway...It's been in the safe ever since, getting fondled and oiled every now and then.

I added the sling. The stock is an M44 and was shellac'd originally, it has a clear coat of some sort on it now. All numbers except the mag floor match. I can make out an early 'M38 CAI...' stamping on the left side of the muzzle end...

What exactly do I have, and what is it's market value?

I have lots of pics, Thanks for any info!!

I cannot make out exactly what is marked on the barrel, but I can see a "VT". It is possibly the import marking CVA VT = Connecticut Valley Arms Vermont.
