We had those tools in Malaya with our first issue AR15. We didn't like the flash eliminators because the vines and jungle growth caught up in them. The very first trials moodification to our AR15's was to weld a small washer to the open end of the eliminator. Seemed to work. Did hundreds of them!

We also had a wierd kit of 'stuff' including resin and matting to repair broken handguards. We used to use it as spare parts always seemed to be at a bit of a premium. But you could never make it look presentable. Always looked like a bodge job.

It was even worse if you had that smelly mozzie repellent on your hands. That would just 'melt' the black plastic stuff. The trials teams used to say that it wasn't 'melting' it as such but some other chemical thinggy! But it was all the same to the crunchies!

The best source of spares was to ask the Battalion Armourers already in SVN to send stuff down as they had access to the US Military supply chain. It was on these little AR15's that I saw the first of the big IIW/night vision we had the early US one and the similar UK Rank Precision SS20 type. Weighed as much as the rifles and the brackets were, well....., crap is too trivial a word really. Does anyone out there have one? Especially for the US IIW that if I remember correctly, had the zereoing mech in the bracket. I mean....... On the bracket that was on the mount that was crap!

Are you out there somewhere John Dudley from Qld? Remember trying to zero these things on the range near to the Band practice rooms? Sorry to ramble on.....but didn't we laugh!!!!!

The wife and I toss this one to each other once in a while when one deserves it.... Stutarted. Why say two words when one will suffice??...
