Saginaw S'G' with SG on side of reciever

I am looking at a typical rebuilt S'G' with an underwood barrel and other various parts, but I was surprised to see SG on the front left side of the receiver hidden below the wood. Is this typical?

It's probably an SG receiver made in Saginaw, MI and instead of going to Inland, it was sent to Grand Rapids, MI to become an S'G'. Is the barrel original or a replacement? Finish and date on the Underwood barrel may indicate which. What's the SN -- or the first four digits?

I think so, their starting around here at $900 -$1000 at gun shows, and they are the org. mixmaster. you did good imo.

More Photos of the carbine, I was finally able to make a deal on it this weekend and brought it home. I was surprised about some of the markings such as the flaming bomb on the bolt and the S"G" on the receiver. The barrel is dated 5/44 and appears to be original to the receiver. The date is a light stamp and does not photograph well. The trigger housing is marked ST (I think) and the hammer is marked HI. I think the photos tell the rest of the story.
I am very interested to hear any comments.

I think you did well for $650. What type of operating slide does it have? After SAGINAW under the rear sight, does it show S.G. or S'G'? Your trigger housing and stock are Standard Products pieces. Your barrel may have been replaced. I'm not certain, but it doesn't look quite right, as well as the EU front sight. Has it got a bayonet lug on it? If you don't have a copy of "U.S. M1 Carbines Wartime, Production" by Riesch, it will have the answers to a lot of questions about the parts - but not all of them. That book runs around $20. USGI, thanks for your comments. The receiver behind the rear sight is marked Saginaw S'G' . It does have a a bayonet lug marked SI. The slide is marked S'G' and is in very small letters. There are no import marks on it. The barrel date of May of 44 seems to be possible or correct given the serial number which is outside of published serial numbers but still common given some unknowns on the serial number ranges on these (I think but dont know sure sure, still a novice!).
So, I am guessing this is just a typical mixmaster USGI carbine. Is that correct? It seems to have more S'G' parts than I'd expect and I don't know what to think of that, other than a previous owner might have attempted to get more matching parts together for it. Thoughts?

OK so this is NOT a S'G' carbine but it is an S.G. It went through a rebuild and that is when it was updated with the adjustable rear sight and the barrel was changed. Underwood stopped carbine production in April 1944. The government then give Underwood a contract to make replacement barrels and that is why a date of May 1944 would be a replacement barrel. The trigger housing and small parts are also replaced during the rebuild. $600 is very good for a rebuilt carbine.

I wish I could find a rebuilt carbine for 600.00! Around here at gunshows they start at 900.00.

$650 for one without import and having a couple of S'G' parts is a good value. Even with an import mark it's not bad.
