Ishapore No1 MkIII?
What's the opinion of the Ishapore made MkIII rifles? I have a line on one that from pictures looks really nice for about $450... All matching except for the bolt handle. I've been wanting one for a long time, but finding a good one at a decent price is getting really hard. Chances are this one will be gone before I get home next month, but figured I'd ask in case I get lucky.

I had one for years that my wife bought me for Christmas for $100 CDN about 1983 or '84...and it had seen lots of range time as the commencement was about four inches long...but it was a good example and shot fine for me. The material and workmanship was comparable to its peers... That one you have there is a good example and I'd pay that for it.

I like them a lot, mine is a 1962 built on an early BSA receiver. Top notch quality. I want a 2A1 so I can have an "SMLE" in 7.62!

I had one of those once upon a time. That caliber is incredibly tame in this big, heavy design. I tend to like recoil - really makes me feel like I'm doing something. So it was light enough for me to take notice of it.

You should have done up a #4 then in 458X2" American...mod the mag to about a 4 shot...that should do it for you. Leave the original buttplate...

rcathey if you like recoil try full power loads from a 460 Weatherby Magnum in its standard stock with 500gn projies that should cool the recoil bug for at least a few weeks I did 4 rounds out of my mates one before he had a dead mule fitted and a custom stock on the 3rd round I forgot to have my yap ajar sure as heck I tasted enamel after touching that one off.
"The performance level of the Weatherby cartridge comes at a cost: recoil. The recoil of the .460 Weatherby Magnum is severe. The cartridge generates close to 100 ft⋅lbf (140 J) of energy. This is in keeping with Newton's inescapable Third Law of Motion: Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. As performance levels rise, so does the recoil. Put into perspective the recoil of the .460 Weatherby is 120% greater than the .375 H&H Magnum, 50% greater than the .458 Winchester Magnum and 20% greater than the .458 Lott."

I saw the pic in the Photobucket link. Looks like the wood has been sanded half to death and varnished. Yuck.

I agree with Steve just not cochre like that.
I have never understood Bubba's reasoning to sand/varnish the 303's or any milsurps for that matter when the natural way of keeping them has worked for eons including wartime why only the outside gets a lick or two when water/moisture can still ingress under the barrel & action.........Shame on bubba's
