Thunderbox, the Belgian story was told to me not by AAS but by another (English born but now resident in Europe) dealer when I examined one of the tins at Ciney a few years ago. The tin was clearly from the same source as AAS's & I don't think it is the case that they were official issue to the Belgians. I guess it would make a good cover story to explain any little discrepancies when compared to a genuine UKicon WW2 box, wouldn't it? I'm not saying anyone was lying to me......the person I spoke to may have been told this themself. I suppose it could conceivably be true but I very much doubt it. I bought a few tins from AAS a few years ago. When he saw me grimmacing at the spurious marks that had been applied to one or two, he wanted to know what markings should be present. I blustered. He was also very keen to 'borrow' or buy a SMLE wire breaker (not a set of cutters which he already repro's) off me, but I declined. I think he gets much of his stuff done in Viet Nam; his wife hailing from there. He did once indicate that the stuff that has to be more precisely machined (eg No32 brackets) he sources elsewhere (??Eastern Europe??), but did not reveal precisely where.

So has anyone closely examined the bracket yet? It looks different than anything else I've seen, but the evilbay pics aren't the best.

Of the two scopes I saw in Belgiumicon, the one on the rifle did in fact have a genuine Rose Brothers bracket on it (it was the only genuine part of the whole No4 T rig). The scope in the tin clearly had a repro bracket on it. The bracket's contours to me looked very much like the the Sarco type; it had the prominent ridge just in front of the rear clamp/ring for example. However, it had a crudely filed up finish to it & had been chemically blacked over this. It could have been a 'roughed up' Sarco example, but may be from another source altogether. Couldn't say for sure. (By this time the storholder's looks weren't too welcoming!). How about the one on the on line auction. Anyone had a good look at the bracket?

    Fake Brackets

Remember that there are fake brackets being made in and around Victoria BC, CANADA that were described to me as--we are building No4 T brackets so good you will have a hard time telling them from the originals?

    Hmmmm
Of course after that thread last summer the manufacturer came on and lambasted me telling us all that he sold them on Ebay and people are happy.

I am sure they are, I have not heard one bad report of them
    Regards
    Terry

    Dear Terry,

Could you tell us who is making these "fake brackets...in and around Victoria BC", as I'd like to pick up one or two?

It would be easier than getting one from Roger as I just had to.

And if you need to refresh your memory, this was the previous thread on your story: Fake Canadian No 4(T) - Military Surplus Collectors Forums

I'll await your reply before commenting further.
