Found the compass at an Ontario gun show sitting in a wooden box.....
The cutter is mounted on a Candadian 1918 No.1 MkIII* ShtLE...
I put this two pieces in the MKL
along with some videos of the cutter shown working on a rifle. Check it out under the Englans section of the library.
Thanks for the feedback ...

Ok, she arrived .....
I've prepared a 316 detailed picture photo montage for entry into the Milsurp Knowledge Library
, but I still have to label all of the descriptive captions.
In the meantime, here's a quick peek ....
1939 Code 42 K98k
(with walnut stock)
(Mfg in 1939 for the Luftwaffe by Mauser Werke AG, Oberndorf a/N)

Bottom line, I'm more than excited about this acquisition. Although I already had a 1939 Oberndorf in the collection, this new arrival turned out to be a real sleeper from a collectors point of view.
The condition is terrific and this rifle matches all the way down to the firing pin, with even the guard screws and release latch screw being serial numbered to the rifle. Of the 279,078 rifles reportedly manufactured by Oberndorf in 1939, only a random few were made with the traditional walnut stock. This turned out to be one of them. The majority were made with laminated stocks, the result of trials that had stretched through the 1930s.
The second bonus that was a real pleasant surprise is who it was made for. Besides Oberndorf's WaA63 stock markings (see pics), it's also marked with an "L" (Eagle above it), indicating it was manufactured for the Luftwaffe!
It's even acknowledge in Law's book that it is very rare to find K98's with the "L" Luftwaffe marking, as opposed to the more usual "H" Heer (Army) stamps.
So, all in all, I'm one happy camper.
Maybe I'll put the other 1939 Code 42 Oberndorf up for auction.
I'll get the photo montage entry completed as I find time and then post it up for everyone to view.
Regards,
Badger

Yeah Badger, but is it Luftampt inspected with an e-block serial number? Now THAT would be rare...

A very fine looking 98, The question becomes, how could you top that one? Like after you get a 220 lb 12 point white tail, all else just isn't the same. Enjoy-SDH
